Snoring pushed couple into separate bedrooms — but it made their love stronger - New York Post

Sweet dreams are made of this.

An engaged couple is proudly proclaiming their decision to sleep in separate rooms — and the bold choice has apparently led them to be “more intimate than ever.”

Chantel Billy, 26, and her fiancé Jackson, 27, have opted for separate sleeping arrangements due to the man’s relentless snoring. They are proud to be breaking a longtime stigma that couples need to share a bed to have a successful relationship.

“Many people accused my relationship of failing, saying that my partner didn’t love me anymore and that he didn’t find me attractive anymore,” Billy, who has been living with Jackson for about four years, told Caters News.

“Me and my partner have been more intimate than ever now that I’m able to get eight hours of sleep.”

Billy, of Melbourne, Australia, was especially inspired to open up about their two-room setup because of recent comments Cameron Diaz made about why couples shouldn’t be judged for taking separate beds.

Even as close as six years ago, the idea was popularly shunned, as one Reddit user wrote, “The sleep is amazing. ….but my marriage is s—t.”

Their choice also comes as one in three couples are rolling over and embracing a so-called “sleep divorce” as recent research suggests that snoozing solo is in one’s best interest.

“I would toss and turn for hours and would often have to shake my partner awake to get him to change sleeping positions so that it would minimize the noise he was making,” Billy said, adding that Jackson would often be relegated to the couch anyway.

“I would often wake up tired and irritated.”

He, too, would often be depleted of energy because of the back and forth.

But a few months ago, Jackson served Billy with the concept of a sleep divorce. At first, she “hesitated” out of concern about what it would do to their connection, but the split has them napping on cloud nine.

“Since having separate beds, I have noticed such a massive change in Jackson’s mood and energy levels,” Billy said.

“We have both started going to the gym in the mornings and feel so much more motivated in our day-to-day lives — it’s amazing what eight hours of sleep can do.”

Now, she’s “fully on board” as the dozing duo are both naturally interested in spending more time with the other as a result.

“This means not just scrolling on your phone in bed — actually planning movie nights together, nights where we have pillow talk for 30 minutes before bed,” said Billy.

“I believe it has fueled our individuality too,” she added, saying that Jackson “is excited to have his own space to explore his hobbies,” such as reading.

Now, Billy is calling on society to wake up and get with the program.

“It’s as simple as that; it’s not as deep or controversial as everyone is making it out to be.”
