Several appealing coaching opportunities could open up for Belichick in 2025.

It’s looking more and more likely that Bill Belichick is going to be on the outside looking in at a coaching gig during the week.

Belichick has only interviewed with one team this offseason in the Atlanta Falcons. And while he was once tabbed as a frontrunner for that head-coaching vacancy, Atlanta ultimately opted to hire Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

With the Seahawks and Commanders standing as the only two NFL teams with a head-coach opening, Belichick might have to look to 2025 if he wants to try and break Don Shula’s all-time wins record.

Granted, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported this weekend that Belichick is willing to wait for the right opportunity to arise rather than rush into a poor situation.

And based on the number of coaches set to open next season on the hot seat, plenty of appealing options could be available for Belichick in 2025.

Among a group of tempting options for the legendary head coach, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio tabbed one franchise in particular as a coveted landing spot for Belichick.

As part of a column posted on Sunday, Florio listed seven franchises as “teams to watch” for Belichick in 2025: the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But Florio added that the Giants — a team Belichick has clear ties to — stands out above the rest.

“I added the Giants because it’s been long believed he would love to go back to the place where he won a pair of Super Bowls as defensive coordinator, and because the team took a nosedive in 2023 after a playoff berth in 2022,” Florio wrote.

The Giants have had an up-and-down stretch under head coach (and former Patriots assistant) Brian Daboll. He won the AP NFL Coach of the Year in his first season with New York after leading the Giants to a 9-7 record, but they regressed in 2023 with a 6-11 record.

Belichick might have a soft spot for New York after winning two Super Bowls there, but a team like the Giants may not be the best spot for him if he wants to stack up wins.

Of course, that fondness for the Giants based on his previous triumphs doesn’t mean it translates to the current state of the organization, either.

In the latest Breaking Big Blue podcast, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan noted that Belichick’s opinion of the Giants has changed as of late.

“I’ve heard this multiple times over the past five, six, seven years. And it’s a dirty little secret, maybe, about Bill Belichick and the Giants,” Raanan said. “I don’t think he looks at the Giants the same way he used to look at the Giants when he was here.”

In particular, Raanan noted that the involvement of the Mara family — who have owned the Giants in some capacity since their founding — might have soured Belichick’s view of the team.

John Mara’s nephew, Tim McDonnell, is currently the Giants’ director of player personnel. And given Belichick’s reported desire to hold significant control over personnel moves with his next team, a team like New York may not be the best fit.

“Over the years, Bill Belichick has given advice to people [across the NFL]… that he didn’t really like the setup of the Giants organization. Like, he didn’t think the Giants (were) this great organization,” Raanan said. “Bill Belichick, like everybody else watching from the outside (and) watching the way it’s set up, doesn’t think — at least this is what I’ve heard — it’s this great organization in its current iteration.”
