You don’t have to travel around the world, to another state or the Mexican border to be involved in Christian missions, local leaders say.
“Love Out Loud” starts here in Neshoba County Monday and runs through Thursday. Now in its third year, organizers say the needs in the community are many.
“We do a little bit of everything,” said the Rev. David Addy, missions director at the Neshoba County Baptist Association. “Volunteers can come in every day at 8 a.m. to the Neshoba County Baptist Association building, decide where they want to work and go to it.”
Love Out Loud ministry opportunities include:
• Random acts of kindness such as packing goodie bags
• Animal vaccination clinic
• Assisted living and nursing homes
• Beds for kids
• Secondhand stores
• Boys and Girls Club VBS
• Local parks
• Car washes
• Cards for soldiers
• Center for Pregnancy Choices
• Children/youth basketball camps
• Drive-Thru Prayer
• 4H Master Gardeners
• Fresenius Kidney Care
• God’s Closet
• Neshoba County Public Library
• Neshoba Baptist Center
• Ramp Ministry (for handicapped)
“We expect to share our love for Christ with the county and give people an opportunity to take part in that ministry and share that love,” Addy said. “This is our third year and we’re excited to have the chance to do this.”
Volunteers work until noon. People with carpentry skills are especially needed but there are plenty of opportunities to help.
Addy explained that their Beds of Kids ministry was born out of Love Out Loud.
They learned that there is a need for good beds for some children in the community.
A ministry in Tupelo makes the beds. The frames can be purchased for a child. After it arrives, the mattress and ‘bed in a bag’ are purchased. These are delivered along with a Bible and a stuffed animal.
“We have teams of people who go in and install the beds,” Addy said. “They usually present the plan of salvation and leave a Bible. It’s a cross denomination ministry. In a year’s time, we have installed 20 beds, The need is referred either by DHS or the school.”
There will be a community-wide worship service Wednesday night. It will be held at the Neshoba Central gym starting at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Danny Lanier will speak and Todd Tilgham will handle the music.
Around 200 people volunteered last year.
“We just need folks to come out and help,” Addy said. “We are exited about the opportunity God has given us.”
Donations needed for Love Out Loud include new stuffed animals, blankets, bed-in-a-bag sets, twin sheet sets, pillows, pet treats and toys, notebook paper, primary tablets, washable markers, diapers, baby shampoo and body wash, baby wipes, sippy cups, used sports equipment, small lotion, note pads, peppermint, nabs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, lip balm, small devotion books, gallon zip lock bags, cookies, Kleenex, bottled water, gum, apples, crayons, art supplies, Bibles, games, combs, and socks.
Love Out Loud begins at 8 a.m. on June 20. For more information about the ministry and to volunteer, call the Neshoba County Baptist Association at 601-656-1820.
