The first Love is Love March celebrating Pride Month stepped off 11 a.m. Saturday in Loveland with about 100 participants.
Flying rainbow flags, holding “Love is Love” signs, waving Pride flags and other flags representing the LGBTQ+ community, the excited group of all ages of adults, teens and children gathered in parking lots just off of Cleveland Avenue.
As the group made its way toward the Loveland City Hall and Foote Lagoon Amphitheater, 500 E. 3rd St., passing cars honked and people cheered.
The march is the first event to take place in the city of Loveland in honor of Pride Month.
“I think it’s important to support the first march in bringing exclusivity to the Loveland area,” Loveland drag queen Sadie Laporte explained. “We wanted to come out and be part of the vision that Loveland can be.”
Laporte, who hosts a drag queen bingo and revue shows in the city, was dressed to the nines with Ivy Faerie and Fair Lane in matching outfits complete with heels and hats.
Greeley’s own Everett Gonzales, Jr., founder of the Great Greeley Bake-Off, also attended the march, alongside his mother, Genie Canales.
Gonzales, Jr. was asked to speak during the festivities, along with other guest speakers from northern Colorado LGBTQ+ communities. In addition to the guest speakers, volunteers read inclusive children’s books to the crowd.
The march was organized and emceed by local drag king and educator Simon Hyperion.
