Changes continue to take place for the Steelers in training camp, the most recent the signing of receiver DeAndre Thompkins.

Tompkins entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, signing as a rookie free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He was released prior to the start of the season, but later landed in the XFL. Thompkins was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 XFL Draft by the D.C. Defenders and caught seven passes for 85 yards and one touchdown in four games, before their season was cut short.

The North Carolina native played college football at Penn State. He finished his Nittany Lions' career with 83 receptions for 1,245 yards and six touchdowns in 52 games. Thompkins became the 31st player in Penn State history to surpass the 1,000-yard career receiving mark.

Thompkins also had a big impact on Penn State's return game with 66 punt returns for 675 yards and two touchdowns, which ranked tied for fourth in Penn State history. He earned All-Big Ten honors in 2017 from the coaches and third-team honors from the media as a return specialist.

To make room for him on the 80-man roster, the Steelers released cornerback Alexander Myres.
