SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – On Wednesday, November 10, Saratoga Springs High School held a signing event for eleven Blue Streaks committing to play NCAA Division 1 sports in college.
Two lacrosse players were at the event. Kylan Rhude is taking her talents to the University of Akron and boy’s lacrosse member, Huck Patton, will be playing for the United States Air Force.
Three of Saratoga’s cross country stars signed their National Letters of Intent. Mackenzie Hart will be attending Wake Forest, Ella Kurto is joining the University of Toldeo, and Claire Cuneo will be running at Saint Bonaventure University.
“The recruiting process was definitely long and stressful, but once it’s done it feels so good,” Hart said of committing to run at the Division 1 level. “It means so much to me. It really just shows how all the hard work I’ve put in, through all the years, has paid off. I’ll be able to continue to work and and do what I love.”
“They had a lot of really nice running trails, which I liked. I also loved their locker room, which might sound weird, but they were really nice.”
Both Hart and Kurto made their verbal commitments in September, while Cuneo made the decision at the end of October.
“I really liked everyone on the team and they have a long, six mile trail which was nice and stood out to me,” Cuneo said of Saint Bonaventure. “The campus is really pretty, with really pretty mountains.”
“I really liked the atmosphere and how enthusiastic the coach was,” Kurto said of Toledo. “They all just seemed to push each other to be the best athlete they could possibly be.’
Hart said she is thinking about majoring in psychology or biology. Cueno is interesting in computer science and information technology. Kurto said she is interested in pursuing dental sciences.
“I’ve known everyone for like six or seven years now and it’s been really cool to watch everyone grow as a team,” Cueno said. “Now that we’re all committing to college, it’s bittersweet because we’re all going in our own direction.”
Ryan Bush and Brooke DeWeese also made commitments to run track. Bush will be attending Providence College and DeWeese committed to Sacred Heart University.
Three Blue Streaks made their commitments to compete in Division 1 rowing. Sara Schechner will be attending the University of San Diego. Brynn Dittrich committed to Columbia University and Isabelle Johnson signed on to The University of Louisville.
Rounding out the group of eleven commitments is Rachel Love, who officially signed on to swim for Texas A & M University.
A SPECIAL GUEST
Joining the cross country team for their signings what a special visitor. Rose, a service dog belonging to coaches Art and Linda Kranick, has been a staple at practices and meets for as long as the runners can remember.

“Rose is amazing and recently there’s also been another puppy, whose name is Ruby,” Hart said. “Rose is a service dog, she’s really special to us.”
“It just always feels like she’s always there to support us, even on our worst days,” Kurto added. “She makes us run faster and motivates us.”
“She’s just always been there with us. She’s a part of the team.”
