Brooklyn Park police say a 5-year-old boy was fatally shot on Thanksgiving Day as an older boy handled a firearm while he and other juveniles attempted to make a social media video.
Police said officers were initially called shortly after 10:14 p.m. Thursday to a home in the 8000 block of Florida Avenue.
Officers found the injured 5-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation determined a 13-year-old boy in the home was handling the gun as he and the other juveniles attempted to make the video. At some point, the gun fired, hitting the victim.
The shooting was apparently accidental, but the 13-year-old boy was taken into custody at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident remains under investigation, police said Friday.
