BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Tropical Storm Fred continues to slowly strengthen as it approaches the Florida coast.
Fred is forecast to make landfall late Monday afternoon near Pensacola as a 60 mph tropical storm. Fred is continuing to be impacted by southwesterly wind shear. This is keeping a majority of the rain on the east side of the storm’s circulation.
With Louisiana staying on the west side of Fred, impacts will be very minimal. Fred will impact Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia with heavy rain in the coming days.
Tropical Depression Grace is forecast to make landfall in Hati sometime Monday. Landfall is forecast to be near the epicenter of Saturday’s earthquake. The current forecast track keeps Grace a tropical depression as it moves through Hispaniola and Cuba.
Grace is then forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico late Wednesday. It’s at this time that Grace could intensify slightly back to a tropical storm. The current forecast track stays well south of Louisiana. But some tropical moisture could stream north and bring elevated rain chances locally Thursday and Friday.
