The Cincinnati Bengals have struggled to make the postseason under the guidance of Zac Taylor. However, with a healthy Joe Burrow, a new toy in Ja’Marr Chase, and an infusion of free-agent talent on the defense, Bengal fans once again have hope for the post-season.
A number of things need to happen for the Bengals to compete for a playoff spot in the brutal AFC North.
5. Bengals have to start fast
Zac Taylor’s first two seasons were rocky, but that doesn’t mean the Bengals didn’t compete well, especially early. The Bengals led the Seahawks and the Chargers late but failed to secure either opener.
Would the team’s fate have been any different with opening day road wins? It’s hard to say, but it certainly wouldn’t have hurt. A little confidence, especially where a young team and a new coach are involved can go a long way.
A home opener is finally in the works for Taylor, and a win over a favored Viking team could snowball into a 3-1 September. For a young team with a coach they know is on the hot seat, a sprinter’s start could make a world of difference. It also helps that the Bengals have a favorable schedule to start the year.
