TAMPA, Fla. — The month of June is Pride Month. You never know where you will find true love or “the one.” That is exactly the story for one Tampa couple. And it was their perfect timing that brought them together inside a garage.
What You Need To Know
- Ashley Butler and Adrien Julious-Butler have been married since 2016
- They both run the Ice Cold Air auto repair shop
- While not working, they donate their time to the community
Ashley Butler is a mechanic and franchise owner of the auto repair shop Ice Cold Air.
By her side is her wife Adrien Julious-Butler working behind the scenes to help find the right people to do the job.
It is not every day you find love in a dusty, greasy garage but every couple has a story.
“She started changing my oil. That’s how I met her actually at her first job,” recalled Julious-Butler about the two meeting for the first time at a different shop years ago.
“She was going to a different shop, they were too busy one day. They said, ‘Go down to this other lady down the road.’ She’s never been back to that place, thank you so much for the referral. She was a great customer and she’s a great life partner,” Butler said.
The couple married in 2016 after same-sex marriage became legal in Florida in 2015. They have an 18-year-old son who is graduating high school this year.
In their free time, the two business owners are constantly giving back.
“So we have Ice Cold Air, we have a fleet management company, we have a short-term rental in Largo, and we do a lot of work for the Black Leadership Network. She’s one of the founding members, so it’s all about community and building businesses to take care of the community” said Julious-Butler.
They work with organizations like Kitchen Table Literary Arts to support women of color who are authors and poets.
During the holidays, they host a major charity drive for Toys for Tots.
“If you help people, I think it makes all the tough days worth it and the great days celebrated,” Butler said.
Together they share the great days and tough ones. They’re always ready to share words of encouragement to other couples who are finding the strength to share their love.
“How you identify, your sexual orientation has nothing to do with who your in your heart,” Butler said.
“More to parents, love your kids, accept your kids. To kids, if your family is not supportive of you, you can create your own family. That was something I did. I call them my ‘framily’ and those are who are really supported me through everything,” Julious-Butler said.
