Andy Reid couldn't recall Jordan Love in light-hearted March moment - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who has found a groove over the past few weeks in his first full season as a starter, has a surprising volume of history with the Kansas City Chiefs, given his relatively limited career sample size.

The Chiefs (8-3) head into Lambeau Field for another look at Love on Sunday.

Love's lone career start before 2023 came in 2021 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, a 13-7 loss in which Love completed 19 of 34 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Love was filling in for Aaron Rodgers, who had been sidelined while isolating as part of the COVID-19 protocol.

That made it all the funnier earlier this year when Chiefs coach Andy Reid was caught off-guard by a question about Love at the NFL owners meetings, when he was asked his thoughts about the presumed heir apparent with Rodgers preferring to play for the New York Jets.

"I'm trying to remember Jordan Love," Reid confessed, before he was reminded that Love started for the Packers against the Chiefs. "Form what I remember, I thought he was good."

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love drops back to pass against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021.

You can perhaps forgive Reid for having bigger fish to fry; he did, after all, lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl championship last year and has directed his team to five straight appearances in the AFC title game, with wins in three of them and two Super Bowl rings to follow.

Reid, of course, also has a Super Bowl ring from his days on the Green Bay Packers coaching staff. He served as assistant offensive line and tight ends coach from 1992 to 1996 and then as quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach in 1997-98, working closely with Brett Favre.

He became Philadelphia Eagles head coach in 1999 and faced the Packers twice in the playoffs. In 2004, Green Bay lost in overtime 20-17 in the infamous “fourth-and-26” divisional-round game that may have been out-done this weekend with Alabama's game-winning “fourth-and-31” conversion against Auburn. Reid led the Eagles to the NFC championship the following season.

In 2011, the Packers won a tense wild-card game over Philadelphia 21-16 en route to a Super Bowl title.

Presumably, Jordan Love's mom will have a much better view this time after she landed in the nosebleeds in Kansas City

The footage from that 2021 game in which Love started against Kansas City included the camera shots of Love's mother, Anna Love, and his girlfriend, Ronika Stone, perched in the top row at Arrowhead Stadium.

Anna said she had been to every single one of Love's games — save for the COVID season — even games where she knew he wouldn't play.

Stone, a three-time All-Pac 12 volleyball standout at Oregon, is also the daughter of former NFL player Ron Stone. If seeds hold, Wisconsin's women's volleyball team would meet Oregon with an NCAA Final Four berth on the line in the regional championship Dec. 9.
