From the producers of the To All the Boys franchise, a new rom-com is coming to Netflix this month! The movie called Love At First sight debuts exclusively on Netflix on September 15, and we cannot wait, but what you may not know is that the movie is based on a best-selling novel. The book, released in 2013, by Jennifer E. Smith is called The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Smith is also the author of Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between, which was adapted into a movie by Netflix in 2022. Here's why you should opt to read the before streaming the movie.
Starring Haley Lu Richardson, Ben Hardy, Rob Delaney, Sally Phillips, and Jameela Jamil, the movie is sure to be a hit, but as all book lovers know: the book is ALWAYS better than the movie! If you're looking for your next quick (only 272 pages) yet oh-so-entertaining read, then look no further. So, what is the YA novel about exactly?
"Timing is everything in this romantic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley [Richardson] and Oliver [Hardy] find that true love can be found in unexpected places," the official book teaser reads.
As the story goes, American book enthusiast Hadley misses her flight from New York's JFK to London's Heathrow, where she is traveling to attend her father's wedding. As she waits for the next plane to depart she meets a British Statistics major named Oliver. They immediately hit it off, spending hours in the airport together and eventually seated next to one another for the lengthy flight. But, what will become of the two once the wheels touch down in London, what will come of this chance encounter, and is love at first sight real? Find out the answers to all these burning questions by reading the book ahead of watching the movie, and decide for your self which is better.
One known difference between the movie and the book ahead of its release is the presence of a narrator in the movie. Jameela Jamil plays the omniscient narrator in the film, providing additional insight into the characters and situation at hand, though there is no outside narrator in the novel. Uncover more of the plot before committing to the read with the official movie trailer:
