He said he was excited to be a Rocket and talked about helping his new team become even more of a fast-paced running team.
Then, he made his first misstep as a new Houstonian.
When McNutt asked how he was going to celebrate his big night, Thompson stomped right into the burger wars from his spot inside Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
“Celebrate? We need to fly some In-N-Out out here,” Thompson said. “I need some In-N-Out. Just fly it out to New York for a day. We’ll be good.”
About 10 minutes after Thompson's comment, Whataburger tweeted about the Spurs' No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama, saying, "The W stands for Wemby now."
Thompson grew up in northern California, so his poor taste in fast food burgers can be forgiven, but his older brother Troy played college basketball at Prairie View A&M, so he should have told him that Houston is a Whataburger town and Texas worships at the House of the Orange W.
If Thompson absolutely can’t do without In-N-Out, there are four locations in the Houston area, but he’s going to have to leave the loop and head to Stafford, Katy, The Woodlands or Willowbrook Mall.
Of course, he probably can get even better burgers, and as many as he wants, from one of Tilman Fertitta's Saltgrass Steak Houses.
Or he could do better than all of that and just head straight to Bun B's Trill Burgers. Something tells us, he'll even be given the Drake treatment and be allowed to cut the line.
