The key may be gone, but a pair of wire snippers can do the job of removing a love lock just fine.
When a TikToker’s relationshiop took a turn she took a trip from Los Angeles to Seoul to finalize it.
According to a report by Insider, TikToker Kassie Yeung traveled from Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea to remove a love lock she and an ex had attached to a favorite tourist attraction there. The trip was a total of 5,593 miles.
She shared her journey via a TikTok video post on Wednesday, where at the time of this writing has received 6.5 million views.
Yeung’s trip took her to the top of N Seoul Tower, also known as the Namsan Tower, where she and an ex had left a lock on one of the tower’s fences in the summer of 2019.
Their lock was one of many. According to South Korea’s government website, Namsan Tower is a destination for people who add a lock to the tower’s fence as a symbol of their love.
Yeung told Insider she removed the lock out of “pettiness.”
To document it all, Yeung recorded her travels from the time she left the airport till she removed the lock. The TikTok video shows her choosing a pair of wire cutters at a store, getting on a bus to the Namsan Tower, where she purchases a ticket, rides up the cable car, and makes her way to the location of her lock.
Yeung said to Insider it took her “about 30 minutes” to sift through the hundreds of locks to find the one she had left there in 2019. Eeventually she was successful and cut it off.
What was her goal in traveling to Seoul?
To be clear, Yeung told Insider that her sole purpose for traveling to South Korea was not just to remove the love lock from Namsan Tower.
Her travels took her to Seoul to pursue a backup dancing career. While planning the trip she remembered the lock she and her ex had left on the tower, so she “decided to take a detour,” she said.
Ultimately, her goal “was to create a relatable video for her followers.” “It is relevant in the sense that everyone goes through relationships, breakups, and possibly having love locks with ex-lovers,” she said.
Yeung may have inspired one of her followers:
Her “commitment to the task” was applauded by followers in the comments. One person wrote, “they would like to do the same with a love lock they left in Paris.”
