Why would a sour time in marriage become sweet?
Melani Robinson, an American, never imagined that she would begin her marriage to her American husband, Neal, in Russia.
But, there they were, newlyweds in Rostov-on-Don, after Neal found a well-paying job at a Russian company.
Homesick during one of the city’s coldest winters, Ms. Robinson would say the same thing every night: “I love you,” and, “We’ve got to get out of here.”
Now, 17 years later and back in the United States, Ms. Robinson longs for those times. Why? She explains in her Modern Love essay, “From Russia, With Mixed Feelings.”
