Holiday-themed events to make a return to downtown - The Pioneer

BIG RAPIDS — The city of Big Rapids will officially usher in a new holiday season next weekend, with a couple of events making a grand return after being absent in 2020.

Brought to the public via the Big Rapids Downtown Business Association, the annual Holiday Market and Festival of Lights will be back in full force for ‘21.

The Holiday Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking of Big Rapids City Hall, with the Festival of Lights parade expected to begin at 6 p.m. the following evening on Michigan Avenue in downtown BR.

The Festival of Lights will be capped off by a tree-lighting ceremony.

Big Rapids DBA President Josh Pyles said he expects both events to be festive celebrations. 

As far as the market is concerned, there is expected to be far more than treats available to visitors and patrons.

“There’s going to be pumpkins and some things for Thanksgiving, and there’s going to be more decorations and festive things,” Pyles said. 

Pyles said anyone with a float is welcome to enter the Festival of Lights Parade, but the Tuesday deadline for registering is fast-approaching.

“We’re coming down to the deadline for getting registered,” Pyles said. 

Pyles also said he has seen interest within a community that missed out on what would have been the 2020 editions of the event

Both the Holiday Market and the Festival of Lights parade had to be canceled one year ago due to the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
