CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Do you have a question that you’d like to have answered in Hey, Hoynsie? Submit it here. You can also subscribe to Subtext here or text Hoynsie at 216-208-4346 for a two-week free trial.

Hey, Hoynsie: Does the hitting coach make that much of a difference? Any examples you can think of? -- Brent, Hunting Valley.

Hey, Brent: Yes, hitting coaches can make a difference. Charlie Lau remade George Brett’s swing and Brett is in the Hall of Fame. Charlie Manuel worked tirelessly with Jim Thome and Thome is in the Hall of Fame. Gio Urshela, after passing through Cleveland and Toronto with a wet noodle for a bat, listened to Triple-A hitting coach Phil Plantier with the Yankees and has hit ever since.

It is not an easy job. Most big-league hitters have their own personal gurus that they work with during the winter and talk to them during the regular season. A team’s hitting coach has to get the players to buy into his approach, while other voices maybe telling them something different.

Hey, Hoynsie: Since Ty Van Burkleo has been let go as hitting coach, are the Guardians looking at a new hitting approach? -- Dave Shahan, Hampton, Va.

Hey, Dave: I think the Guardians would like to find a way to have as much success developing hitters as they have pitchers. Whatever the method they choose, based on the hitting coach they hire, there has to be a free flow of information from the big leagues through the minors and through the players identified as possible acquisitions in trades, free agency and the draft.

Hey, Hoynsie: If the Dodgers go all the way and win the World Series, will Trevor Bauer get a ring and share of the winnings with his current situation? -- Edward Radatz. Sandusky.

Hey, Hoynsie: Normally, the answer would be yes. Late in the regular season, teams with a chance to make the postseason meet and decide which players, managers, coaches and staff members will get full and partial playoff shares based on how far they advance. On the field Bauer did enough to earn a share, going 8-5 in 17 starts. Off the field, he’s being investigated in a sexual assault case in Pasadena, Calif., and has been on administrative leave since late June.

Only time will tell.

Hey, Hoynsie: Why wasn’t outfielder Oscar Gonzalez ever considered a top prospect? Is he now a minor league free agent or do the Guardians still have time to get him on the 40-man roster? -- Darren Donato, Reading, Pa.

Hey, Hoynsie: Gonzalez, until this season, hadn’t separated himself from the crowd. This year he’s done it in a big way, hitting a combined .293 (140-for-478) with 31 homers and 83 RBI at Class AA Akron and Class AAA Columbus. If the Guardians don’t add him to the 40-man roster, he’ll be a minor league free agent.

Hey, Hoynsie: I just got done watching Jordan Luplow in an ALDS game with the Rays. Who did the Guardians get for him and was it a good trade? -- Dan Hoshiko, University Heights.

Hey, Dan: Cleveland acquired right-hander Peyton Battenfield from the Rays for Luplow. Battenfield went 7-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 21 games, including 19 starts, this year. He pitched at three different minor league levels, finally coming to rest at Class AA Akron. Battenfield went 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA in seven starts for the RubberDucks. He struck out 36 and walked seven in 35 2/3 innings. The opposition hit .183 against him.

Luplow is a good guy and a good hitter vs. lefties, but for the last two seasons he’s had a hard time staying healthy.

Hey, Hoynsie: Where do things stand with Bobby Bradley? -- Robert, Pensacola, Fla.

Hey, Robert: If nothing unexpected happens this winter, Bradley should go to spring training as the starting first baseman. Perhaps a better way to put it is that first base is his to lose. He’s out of options and he’s not going to beat out Franmil Reyes at DH. I still would have liked to see Bradley’s numbers if the Indians had opened the season with him instead of Jake Bauers.

Hey, Hoynsie: Why is Amed Rosario the best choice at shortstop vs. putting him at second and having one of the young guys with a higher defensive upside play shortstop? -- Toma Barac, Green.

Hey, Toma: Easy answer. Rosario earned it. If there is a change in plans this winter, Rosario will be the first to know.

Hey, Hoynsie: Do you think Gabriel Arias has a chance to start next year? -- Kori, Austin.

Hey, Kori: Maybe at second base. That position is wide open and there are several candidates to fill it.

Hey, Hoynsie: It seems like the Guardians never say, ‘This guy is going to be a starter, put him on the roster and let him play.’ I am tired of watching Harold Ramirez-type players be Cleveland’s next great hope and we all know they’re mediocre at best. I believe fans would rather see talented young players and I think catcher, second base and the two corner outfield spots are places they could do that. -- Tom Titus, Columbiana.

Hey, Tom: You have a point, but didn’t the Guardians do what you’re suggesting with Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez? I know you’re talking about position players, but what about Shane Bieber, Aaron Civale, Zach Plesac, Triston McKenzie, Trevor Stephan, Emmanuel Clase and James Karinchak.

They rely on developing young players. But you don’t want to bring young players to the big leagues before they’re ready. As Terry Francona has said many times, there’s a difference between getting a player experience in the big leagues and getting him beat up.
