The word “disruption” has been thrown around an awful lot the past 18 months. Merriam-Webster defines disruption as “the act or process of disrupting something: a break or interruption in the normal course or continuation of some activity, process, etc.”
The pandemic, political unrest, social unrest, war, natural and man-made disasters, the mental health crisis. Disruption doesn’t even seem to quite cover it. For some, the disruption has been minor-–maybe more like a momentary annoyance. For others, the disruption has been catastrophic, life-altering, tragic. Maybe for you it’s been somewhere in between.
What are we to make of all of this? Romans 8:37-39 holds the answer. “But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.”
The only way to a “sweeping victory,” in all things, is through Jesus. What does victory look like? It looks like love. It looks like our healthcare workers, store employees, cooks, servers, educators, mental health workers, community leaders, spiritual leaders, soldiers, police officers, paramedics, fire fighters, family members, neighbors, communities, food pantries, vaccine clinics, tech support staff, donors, organizers, collaborators, adopted pets, and on and on and on. Victory is all around us.
If you find yourself feeling discouraged, hurting, grieving--look around you. You are surrounded by love, God’s love. And absolutely NOTHING can separate you from it.
