With WrestleMania 37 set to take place this weekend, Daniel Bryan, Edge, and Roman Reigns each set out to make individual statements during Friday's SmackDown prior to their universal championship match. In recent weeks, all three superstars have gotten the best of each other on various occasions with Bryan getting the upper hand most recently on last week's installment of SmackDown.
Their main-event showdown just two nights away, the three men competing for the universal title on Sunday night in Tampa stated their final cases ahead of the much-anticipated WrestleMania-closing bout.
CBS Sports was with you all night, bringing you recaps and highlights of all the action from the WWE ThunderDome.
Reigns, Edge and Bryan make final WrestleMania statements
Daniel Bryan was out first to begin the show by saying how excited he was for WrestleMania, and that there is nothing like wrestling in front of a live audience and nothing like winning the universal title at WrestleMania. Bryan then said that his career has constantly revolved around hearing the word "no." But whenever he's been told "no," though, he's responded by defying the odds and saying "yes." Bryan mentioned battling back from his previous concussion issues, being questioned as to whether he could be WWE universal champion, whether he could make Reigns tap out at Fastlane and main-eventing WrestleMania as challenges that people said he couldn't topple. He closed by saying Edge and Reigns would be "getting the most dangerous Daniel Bryan they've ever seen., and that he's willing to do anything to win the universal championship.
Edge was out later with a steel chair in hand. Seated in the ring, the Rated-R Superstar recalled dreaming about being in the main event at WrestleMania when he attended WrestleMania 6 as a child and needing to manifest his dreams. Edge said he's accomplished everything that he set out to except being able to end his career on his terms when he was forced out of the ring after a severe neck injury nine years ago. He then accused Bryan of using sympathy as a factor to "weasel" his way into the universal championship match. Instead of a "clash of titans" between Edge and Reigns, Edge described Bryan as an "indie book store clerk troll" that stuck his nose in their business. His attention then turned to Reigns as he called him "Samoan Edge" due to their early-WWE similarities. Edge closed his promo by saying he came back to WWE to "swing for fences" and that Reigns is the "Green Monster." He's headed to WrestleMania to get back what was taken from him.
Lastly, to close the show, it was the universal champion's turn. Reigns' arrogance was on display as he said that whenever he shows up, WWE is "winning." He mockingly gave credit to his opponents, saying each had one good week in getting the best of him. Reigns leaned on his long universal title run, reminding everyone that he's been the top dog since he returned. In talking up his importance to the WWE. Reigns' segment came to a close when he said that Edge will feel the whole world coming crashing down on him as he's acknowledged as the "Head of the Table."
All three delivered phenomenal promos. Edge's felt extremely personal as he revealed what he went through in order to return to the ring for moments like the WrestleMania main event. He even took direct shots at Reigns by saying that the champ is a carbon copy of him. You could feel the emotion, and this was a perfect way to lead into the most anticipated match on the WrestleMania. Grade: A

Taking WWE cameras to his barbershop, his high school and Raymond James Stadium, the intercontinental champion said he never forgot where he came from -- as Apollo Crews has been rediscovering his roots -- and that Tampa is what made him who he is today.
