In the second half of Saturday afternoon’s ACC showdown between North Carolina and Florida State, Tar Heels point guard Caleb Love threw down a massive slam that won’t soon be forgotten.
Trailing by four points with 8:40 to go in the game, Florida State was imbounding from underneath North Carolina’s basket. When the pass went high in the air to the midcourt towards M.J. Walker, Love tipped the ball up to himself for the steal.
Love then had a fast break all alone which he finished off in style.

Entering today’s game, the true freshman Love is averaging 9.3 points per game and 3.3 assists per game. Love was a 247Sports Composite five-star recruit out of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Love was also the No. 2 ranked point guard in the entire country in the recruiting class of 2020. 247Sports’ Brian Snow gave him an NBA comparison of Terry Rozier.
“At nearly 6-foot-3 with pretty good length, Love can play either guard spot and shows significant potential on the defensive end,” Snow wrote. “A score-first point guard, he has the ability to put his team on his back as a bucket getter, or to be a facilitator. Right now, he is more comfortable taking shots than setting up teammates, but his passing has improved and he is doing a better job of running a team. Ultimately, it comes down to Love’s ability to run a team at the college level and beyond, but there is no doubt he can score. The requisite athleticism is absolutely there.”
