DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - Jodi Stricker, who owns Zazou’s Bridal Boutique and Tuxedos, is excited for the new year, especially considering how hard 2020 was for the bridal industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Yeah, there have been a lot of adjustments, but as many have said, ‘Love is not canceled’,” Stricker said. “Many of our clients did proceed and do their vows, but many are postponing the celebration or having a smaller celebration now and postponing a larger celebration into 2021, 2022.”
Those adjustments include moving to a more appointment-based approach instead of walk-ins. Stricker said this allows them to enforce social distancing and gives them plenty of time to clean the area.
“Not only are we trying to keep our clients safe, but I want to keep my team safe too because I would like to stay open,” Stricker said. “The healthier they stay then we can keep my doors open.”
Stricker said she is ready to hear the wedding bells back in full-force this year: her store is already booked every Saturday until February. On Monday, she spent all day organizing the calendar and scheduling appointments.
“It is coming fast and furious and it is exciting because we have all of these brides that they have been stuck at home and playing in their Pinterest and looking at all these images and now, after they have gone through and saved everything on their Instagram, they are coming in and they get to touch and feel and try gowns on,” Stricker said.
Stricker added they overstocked on wedding gowns because of the pandemic. For that reason, they are selling over 100 dresses at $500, which she said has attracted many customers to the store.
Stricker knows this will be a busy year and she is up for the challenge.
“We had to staff up because the appointments are there, the marriage licenses have been applied for, so it is going to be a good year,” Stricker said.
