Past San Bernardino slogans from kids show love for their hometown - San Bernardino County Sun

In 2014, when Councilman Rikke Van Johnson represented San Bernardino, he had a creative idea.

He asked students to submit slogans they thought would be refreshing and represented their vision of the city.

While the intent was great, a slogan from the list was never adopted. The whereabouts of these students are unknown, but these slogans, mottos and statements are what they had to say about their hometown:

Inez Rey: “San Bernardino is flooding with love and passion. This is a place where nothing is too hard or easy, but just right. A simple, unique, and one of a kind place to express yourself.”

Denise Leausa:  “Lovin’ San Bernardino the Great! Why Wait? Don’t hate, negotiate.”

Naomi Negrete: “The Love in San Bernardino is in our hearts.”

Bryan Hernandez: “Come to our community and we offer you a vote in voting.”

David Pena: “San Bernardino has love and people live here for peace. People love San Bernardino for fun and safety. San Bernardino has many people that drive through the city for love and fun.”

Veronica Banuelos: “Love San Bernardino. Come on and see. For we have sights, that are clean and must be seen.”

Maria Villareal: “To improve San Bernardino, we need love. Because without love, there is no trust.”

Tiffany Rosa: “Constructing a healthier community for your loved ones. San Bernardino – Enjoy the best of the best.”

Janet Garcia-Orosco: “Together we smile, together we laugh, together we love San Bernardino.”

Guillermo Zubia: “San Bernardino is a really beautiful city. All of your friends and family will love, have passion and want to stay in San Bernardino.”

Alberto Zambrano: “San Bernardino is a place that needs help to become a great place, but it needs lots of love.”

June Alize Del Rio: “San Bernardino we don’t fear because we love it here.”

Marijane Lucas: “Having passion for San Bernardino means you love this city. Help show your love in and for San Bernardino.”

Alexander Sanchez: “Live in San Bernardino, where you can make great memories.”

Robert Rodriguez: “San Bernardino is full of love.”

Destiny Jimenez: “I love California, so I must love San Bernardino, and you should too.”

Perhaps now is the time all of us who love our city can say thanks to these students, who probably graduated in 2020.

Perhaps your slogans have changed during the past six years, but even so, wouldn’t it be great if we coin the words of a famous writer who said: “Positive change begins with relinquishing the chains of past experience, past careers, past relationships or past complaints. Change for the better commences with the desire to do, to start taking steps towards that vision of a new life.”

Thanks students and/or graduates.

Should we try this again?
