College football players will be permitted to wear No. 0 for the first time this year and West Virginia sophomore receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton decided to make the switch.

Ford-Wheaton wore No. 83 last season but will switch to No. 0 for 2020. The NCAA said No. 0 can be worn after ruling that two players can no longer wear the same number on the same side of the ball. Ford-Wheaton had 83 to himself last season, but true freshman receiver CJ Cole has taken the number this season.
A North Carolina native, Ford-Wheaton found some playing time last season in WVU’s inexperienced receiving corps. Ford-Wheaton made 12 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns last season.
In training camp this year, Ford-Wheaton drew rave reviews from WVU head coach Neal Brown, who thinks Ford-Wheaton is a breakout candidate for the Mountaineers in 2020.
West Virginia is set to open the 2020 season nest Saturday at home against Eastern Kentucky. Kick off is scheduled for noon and the game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
