Three men had top-ten all-time performances in Murray State history. Jorge Ruiz (2nd), Caleb Kawasaki (4th) and Vicente Correia (5th) while seven of the nine men ran personal best times with an eighth man matching his PR on the course at McFarland Park.
"I am really proud of what the men accomplished today. We knew that the course was going to be fast and the weather was perfect at 8:00am when the gun went off. The team wanted to take advantage of the opportunity and they certainly did that," said distance coach Jordan Johnston.
The team's top five average time is the fastest time in over 15 years as the team came in fourth overall of twelve teams.
Jorge Ruiz and Vicente Correia raced their way onto the Murray State All-Time Top 10 list - with Jorge earning the second fastest time in school history (25:09) and Vicente (25:28) earning a fifth place spot on the list. Caleb Kawasaki matched his previous PR that landed him fourth on the list with an 8k time of 25:26.
Jordan Higgins and Nathan Quinn crossed the finish line in 26:21.1 and 26:37.3, respectively, to round out the top five times.
"Our team's top 5 average time was 25:48, which is faster than any top 5 average that I have seen come from our program in the last 15 years. We are really excited about what the rest of the season holds but we know that there are some weaknesses that we need to focus on these next two weeks while we are off from competing," said Johnston.
The largest PR was Jarod Willis, taking an astounding 2 minutes and 46 seconds off of his freshman year time, finishing 50th today and 7th for the team with a time of 26:55.
Murray State heads to Columbia, Missouri for the Mizzou's Gans Creek Classic on Oct. 1.
